After installing TI Connect CE, open it. A shortcut should be on your desktop. If it is not, you can search for the application by typing "ti connect ce" in your Windows or Mac search. When the application opens, it should show a screen similar to this.
From here, connect your calculator using a compatible cable. I will be using the Ti-84 Plus CE, however the process is the same for both.
Now that the calculator is connected, navigate to the Calculator Explorer workspace on the left side of the window.
Extract the TIBoyCE_Alpha_v#.#.#.zip file and drag TIBOYCE.8xp, TIBoyDat.8xv, and (optionally) TIBoySkn.8xv into the Ti Connect CE window. This will upload the files onto the calculator archive memory, ensuring that a RAM reset will not delete the application. It should appear similarly to the photo once it is on the calculator.
Disregard TIBoyCfg. That is automatically generated to save configuration data when the program is used.
From here on, it is assumed that you installed arTIfiCE from the message above.
Using arTIfiCE, I chose to install Cesium, which is required to launch any ASM programs such as Ti-Boy CE on a calculator running OS 5.5 or later. To open Cesium, press the [apps]
button on your calculator,
then use the arrow keys to select Cesium and press the [enter]
button.
Cesium can also be opened from the normal calculator screen using [on]
+ [prgm]
.
In Cesium, TIBOYCE should be visible just below "USB Flash Drive." In the photo depicted above, there are other programs however in our case there will only be TIBOYCE.
If you have gotten this far, then TiBoy CE can run on your calculator. Congratulations! You will now notice that you have no games to play unfortunately. Using your legally obtained copy of any Gameboy or Gameboy Color game, we will now convert it to .8xv files which will allow you to play them using TiBoy CE.
Luckily, the developer has created an in-site converter that we will use. For this example, I will be using a copy of Kirby's Dream Land for the Gameboy. Upload the file to the prompt.
When uploading a file, the site will prompt you to define a prefix for the filename. It does not matter what you type, as long as you can identify which game it is. In this case, I entered "KRBY". It will then ask what you want the game to be named when showing in the menu. I recommend keeping this the same unless it is different than the games name. Once the conversion has finished, multiple .8xv files will be available to download. For simplicity sake, we will click on the "Download TI-84 Plus CE bundle" button which will allow us to install all the files in one quick motion.
Now that we have our bundle file (.b84) we can drag it onto our Ti Connect CE window with the calculator files visible.
When this prompt appears, press the blue "Send" button. Be careful, do not let your calculator disconnect during the transfer.
Now, your game can be launched and played in TiBoy CE! Navigate back to the application and the game should be listed. Press [enter]
and it will launch.
